Specialists in Industrial Freezing Equipment Repair in Barcelona

At FrioTecPro (BCN Reparacions) we are experts in the repair and maintenance of all types of industrial freezers in Barcelona and the metropolitan area. Industrial freezing requires maintaining working temperatures of -18°C to -25°C or even lower in blast-freezing tunnels, a technical demand far greater than positive-temperature storage equipment.

A breakdown in an industrial freezer isn't just a product loss: it can also mean breaching food-safety regulations and facing penalties. That's why we respond with maximum urgency to this type of incident, with technicians on the road 24 hours a day in vans stocked with the most common spare parts and refrigerants for negative-temperature systems.

Types of Industrial Freezers We Repair

Industrial chest freezers

Stainless steel chest freezers for professional use in hospitality, catering and bakeries. We repair compressors, thermostats, defrost heaters and lids.

Freezer island units

Frozen-food display islands for supermarkets and large stores. These include automatic defrost systems, interior lighting and motorised glass lids.

Upright freezer cabinets

One- or two-door cabinets for professional use in hospitality and food retail. Working temperatures from -18°C to -22°C.

Blast-freezing tunnels

For the food industry: freezing products in a few hours down to -30°C or -40°C. Repair of high-power refrigeration units and control systems.

Freezer rooms

Negative-temperature cold rooms of any capacity, from 5 m³ up to large logistics storage rooms.

Freezer display cabinets

Freezer display cases with curved or flat glass for displaying ice cream, pizzas and other frozen products in shops and supermarkets.

Most Frequent Faults in Industrial Freezers

  • Not reaching freezing temperature — refrigerant gas loss, an underpowered compressor or a misadjusted thermostatic expansion valve.
  • Excess ice on the evaporator — a burnt-out defrost heater, a faulty end-of-defrost sensor or a worn door seal.
  • Compressor stopping due to overheating — a very dirty condenser, insufficient ventilation in the plant room or a tripped thermal protector.
  • The controller shows a high-temperature alarm — diagnosis of the specific error code shown by the controller (Dixell, Eliwell, Carel).
  • Metallic noise from the compressor — possible liquid refrigerant slugging, an urgent situation requiring immediate attention to prevent serious damage.
  • High electricity consumption with no temperature change — usually indicates a very dirty condenser or gradual gas loss.

Refrigerants for Negative-Temperature Systems: R-404A, R-452A and Alternatives

The European F-Gas Regulation is progressively phasing out high global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants such as R-404A (GWP 3,922), which has been restricted for new equipment since 2020 but is still present in millions of operating installations.

For existing installations running R-404A, the most common direct-replacement alternative is R-452A (GWP 2,140) or R-448A (GWP 1,387). In some cases, a full conversion of the circuit to R-744 (CO₂) may be more appropriate for larger negative-temperature installations.

All work involving fluorinated gases is documented with a mandatory traceability record in accordance with EU Regulation 517/2014. Our technicians are certified to handle all of these refrigerants.
